Main Street Project

The Susquehanna Community Development Association's Main Street Committee has achieved a Main Street Affiliate designation to help us strengthen and beautify our growing business district. They have used the National Main Street Center's "Main Street Four Point Approach" to structuring their organization.

The Main Street Committee works toward the goals of economic development, downtown beautification, job creation, increased assessed real estate valuations and a better quality of life for our residents. They have identified the economic, design, organizational and promotional strategies required to achieve their goals. This has not only brought new focus and strength to the committee, but many new members to the organization as well.

You can volunteer to help out with some of the projects that are ongoing. Please attend a meating or contact the SCDA for more information

The letter announcing the formation of the Main Street Committee

April 26, 2004
Dear Community Partner:

The Susquehanna community has experienced a rebirth of volunteerism, community pride, enthusiasm, and strong new ideas to implement various revitalization efforts in our community. We are very excited about the recent changes that are taking place, while making plans for our future.

The SCDA's Main Street Committee is proud to announce that the Susquehanna Business District has been designated as a PA "Main Street Affiliate". This designation provides tremendous benefits to our community through matching grant for facade restoration, beautification projects, and Anchor building grants.

Some of the goals during the first year for our promotion department are web site development, event planning, business directory, promotional and image building that include business, hospitality service, outdoor recreation and historic opportunities. Our design committee is busy working on guidelines for facade restoration, logo, and identifying improvement projects. Our economic group has been working on a business traffic survey, revolving fund and memorial accounts, while the organization committee is already making plans to establish an active council on the arts, a garden club and collecting event information from local organizations for scheduling and promotional purposes and purchase of an event board.

Our community can only continue on its positive path by working together and sharing a common goal for a better quality of life. At this time we are relying on your support and generosity and ask that you consider one of the following sponsorship/membership in the Main Street Committee. Silver Member: $25-$50; Gold Member: $75-200.00; Platinum Member: $200 and up.

Your tax-deductible donation will support these projects and make all of our dreams a reality. Donations can be sent to: The Main Street Committee 284 Erie Blvd, Susquehanna, PA 18847.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help us to help you!

Sincerely,

Chet Walker
