Shreds material so it can be easily treated
Raw sewage is moved by pumps
operated by a control panel.

| After pretreatment the wastewater is pumped to begin secondary treatment |
Pre-Aeration
Freshens the wastewater by adding oxygen through
pumping air into the
aeration tank.

Aeration Tanks
Provides contact between the raw sewage and activated sludge,
which contains millions of bacteria and other microorganisms that
stabilize the waste and produce a settleable material.
Clarifiers
Sludge is settled from the water in the tank of the clarifier.
Aerobic Digesters
Sludge that settles from the clarifiers is pumped
to different locations. It is either
returned to the aeration tanks or placed in the digesters or
reedbeds where different organisms stabilize it to produce
biosolids which are then used for their soil conditioning
and fertilizer value. The biosolids are removed from the plant in a
tanker truck.
Contact Tanks
Water is disinfected to kill any disease-producing
organisms before being discharged to the river.
The quality of the water is tested on a regular basis.
